All pubs and KTVs were ordered to cease operations in March 2020 and it was only in September 2020 that some joints were allowed to re-open. COVID-19 has indeed brought about a huge impact to our lives and many businesses have even closed down for good. Pubs, clubs and KTV businesses are greatly affected especially since the reopening of the night entertainment scene is set to be deferred further. This is to prevent the risk of community transmission and formation of clusters in high-risk settings, such as nightclubs and karaoke outlets, which entail people coming into close contact for prolonged periods of time and in enclosed spaces. During this period, many KTVs have pivoted and converted their business model into “Bistros” which will allow them to be opened during Phase 3.
To reiterate the current guidelines, there can only be a maximum of 2 pax for dining-in and no karaoke singing is allowed in the KTV rooms. KTVs which are now opened as Bistros would require customers to order food and drinks while they continue their social activities in the private rooms like the good old days. Tips have also been doubled in this “new norm” with operating hours being adjusted to adhere to the rule of no alcohol consumption beyond 10.30pm.
Below is a quick list of the TOP 5 joints that have managed to pivot their businesses and remain operational at the moment. We urge all chiongsters to adhere to the safe distancing rules and chiong responsibly.
